August Birthday Luncheon at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s August birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon starting at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 26. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the fellowship shared by all. The Center offers a variety of activities to choose from for some summer fun.  Activities consist of cards games including bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em, and various others. Also, you can get your exercise in a class or on your own with the available exercise equipment. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables, or get creative in the painting/craft class, win prizes playing bingo, and enjoy musical tunes every Thursday during Music night. These activities are available for seniors, 50 and older. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an August calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, Aug. 5 – Monday mornings start off at 9:30 a.m. with women’s pool and an artist class. The women have a lively time and some fun competition playing 8-ball. They would like some new players to come join the good times.  Also, bring your supplies and join the artists group and share your painting skills with the other members. There is exercise equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, Aug. 6 –Would like to get some exercise and not cost you anything but your commitment? Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center. This class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. These exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, Aug. 7 – It is women’s pool time again starting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie based on true events, “42” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Aug. 8 –Limber up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group that meets for a good workout from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. A men’s pool tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m. Join us for some wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, Aug. 9 – Women pool players and the artists show up again at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system. At 12:00 noon the birthday luncheon will be held. Bring your favorite food dish and join the fun. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

         Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Wally Reynolds, 1st; and Norma Burk, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champion for the past week was: Lula Mae Davis. A men’s pool tournament was held and the first round winner was Ron Thomas and the second round winner was Jack Ventris.
