Come have a good time at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a cool place to spend your summer time participating in many activities for seniors, 50 and older. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a July calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, July 22 – Pool balls will be flying around the table starting at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning as the women players take up their pool sticks.  At the same time, painters take up their paint brushes to show their artists skills on their canvases. There is exercise equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, July 23 –Try out the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center, free of charge. This class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. These exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, jig-saw puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, July 24 – The women pool players pull out their pool sticks again at 9:30 a.m. They have a lot of fun and enjoy each other’s fellowship. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The based on true facts, drama movie, “Left to Die: The Sandra and Tami Chase Story” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, July 25 – This is another exercise morning for the Sit ‘n Be Fit group that meets up to get a good workout from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Also, a men’s pool tournament will start at 1:00. Join us for some wild Bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, July 26 – The women pool players are busy racking up the pool balls again beginning at 9:30 a.m. Bring your art project and supplies and join the painting class, also at 9:30 a.m. It is a good place to share ideas and fellowship. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

         Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Mallory Owen, 1st; and Barbara Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Murna Raff, 1st; and Lucy Robinson and Penny Sizemore, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the past week were: Chestine Crane, Betty Maney, and Jean Hatcher. Frank Berry won the men’s pool tournament held recently.
