Stay Active at the Senior center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants enjoy the variety of activities offered. These activities are available for seniors, 50 and older. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an August calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, Aug. 19 – Monday morning starts off with women’s pool time at 9:30 a.m. Also, a painting group meets up at the same time. You can bring your own pool stick or use one of the Centers and join the fun competition. They would like some new players to come join the good times. Bring your painting supplies and join the artists group and share your creative skills with the other members. There is exercise equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, Aug. 20 – A free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit, is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, Aug. 21 – The women pick up their pool sticks again and rally around the tables for several rounds of 8-ball, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie, “The Last Ride” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Aug. 22 – Test your endurance and flexibility out with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group that meets for a good workout from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try some canasta or pool and snooker playing and join us for some wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, Aug. 23 – Women’s Pool and painting or crafting with the artists group are on the morning agenda after the doors open at 9:30 a.m.  Also, exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system.  Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

         Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Wally Reynolds, 1st; and Norma Burk, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Meg Klecke and Terry Miller, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champion for the past week was: Lula Mae Davis.

         Friday, Aug. 16 – The women gather again to practice their pool shots and the artists show up to show off their painting skills all beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also, exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system.  Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. They need more women to participate. So come on women pool players, join the exciting competition.

August Birthday Luncheon at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s August birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon starting at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 26. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the fellowship shared by all. The Center offers a variety of activities to choose from for some summer fun.  Activities consist of cards games including bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em, and various others. Also, you can get your exercise in a class or on your own with the available exercise equipment. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables, or get creative in the painting/craft class, win prizes playing bingo, and enjoy musical tunes every Thursday during Music night. A men’s pool tournament was held and the first round winner was Ron Thomas and the second round winner was Jack Ventris.

Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Also, a men’s pool tournament will start at 1:00. Join us for some wild Bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Defensive Driving Class to be held on July 16


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center still has a few spaces left for the defensive driving class offered by Meridian Technical Center on Tuesday, July 16 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for this class and you might check with your vehicle insurance provider to see if the class qualifies you for a discount. The Center offers many activities for seniors, 50 and older, such as; card games, pool/snooker playing, exercise class and exercise equipment, dominoes, bingo, movies, painting class, and musical entertainment. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

          Last week’s winners of various games were: social bridge; Jean Herndon, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd; duplicate bridge partners; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 2nd.  The Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Chestine Crane and Lula Mae Davis.
