The
City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants stay busy with the many
activities offered for persons, 50 and over, such as; card games, social and
duplicate bridge, pool and snooker, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, Bingo,
a painting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by
several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a
treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also, a
walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular
hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and
music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 6 to
8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events. Reminder: music night will not be held this week.
Monday,
February 12 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offers a good workout for
participants every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. along
with women’s 8-ball pool playing. In the exercise class a chair is set out for
everyone to do the sitting exercises and to use for support while doing the
standing ones. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized to test your
flexibility and coordination. The women pool players play several rounds of
friendly 8-ball pool and always welcome new players to join them. Starting at
10:30 a.m., line dancers line up ready to do some boot scootin’ across the
floor in time to the country songs. They have fun while getting some good
exercise. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool and snooker are played. Also,
check out the jig saw puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday,
February 13 – A class that will keep you active is the faster paced exercise/dance
class, “Zumba with Angie”. It is offered at the Center, every Tuesday and
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Their routines are done to a faster moving type of music
so good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless,
slide on types are allowed. Afternoon games include; duplicate bridge, canasta and
pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge
which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun
time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday,
February 14 – The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and
women pool players start arriving ready to have a good time at the Center. Then
at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. Games of
canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool
and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday,
February 15 – Guitar musicians continue to stay active in the guitar lessons
class that meets every Thursday morning at 9:30 p.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. it is
time to Zumba again. Class members move with Angie and work on their steps to
the Latin American music. The afternoon brings out canasta, bridge and pool
players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Reminder: Music
night is not scheduled for tonight.
Friday,
February 16 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers, women pool players, and artists all
come in at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art supplies and share their
ideas and skills with each other. The painting class time continues into the
afternoon now to accommodate more artists and give their paint time to dry. Line
dancing takes place at 10:30. Come stroll along with them. During the
afternoon, duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 p.m. and canasta card players come
in around 1 p.m. Pool and snooker is also played during the afternoon. The
puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the
puzzle.

weeks reported social bridge winners were: Lynn Fent, 1st; and Donna
Stritke, 2nd. Duplicate
bridge winners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Gay Lynn
Bullock and Sally Simmons, 2nd. Friday’s winning partners in duplicate bridge
were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Lucy Robinson and Benny
Evans, 2nd.
