The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will celebrate participant’s September birthdays Wednesday, September 27. Cake
and ice cream will be served at 2 p.m. Several activities for seniors 50 years
old and older are offered. These activities include: card games, pool and
snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a
painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed
by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a
treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also, a
walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours
at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music
night is held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6 to
8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events. Please note; music night will take place this week. Everyone
brings a snack to share while enjoying the good music and singing.
Mark your calendars, coming up Wednesday,
October 4, Tiger Drug will be giving flu and pneumonia shots here at the Center
from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. There is no charge for the shots if you bring you
Medicare insurance card. Otherwise, there is a $25 charge/person. No
appointments will be taken. It is a first come first serve basis.
Monday, September 25 – If you are looking for
a low impact exercise class that just happens to be free, check out the Sit ‘n
Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Everyone has a chair for the sitting exercises
and for support while doing the standing ones. Stretchy bands and bouncing
balls are utilized into the exercise routine to test your flexibility and
coordination. Another activity that takes place at that time is women’s pool
time. They play several rounds of friendly 8-ball pool and always welcome new
players to join them. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers
start boot scootin’ to country songs. They have a lot of fun, while getting
some good exercise. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool, and snooker are
played. Also, you can check out the jig saw puzzle table and test your puzzle
skills.
Tuesday, September 26 – A faster paced
exercise/dance class is Zumba with Angie. She will get you moving to the faster
type music. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Good sturdy shoes
are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are
allowed. Afternoon games include; duplicate bridge, canasta and pool/snooker.
Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at
12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody
wins a prize!
Wednesday, September 27 – Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercise class and women’s pool playing time takes place again at 9:30 a.m. Then
at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. Also, games
of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with
pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, September 28 – Guitar lessons are
given 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class members join up again with
Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings
out canasta, bridge and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin
at 2 p.m. Remember music night will be held tonight at 6 p.m. Doors open at
5:30 p.m. Everyone has a toe tappin’
good time.
Friday, September 29 – Several activities
occur Friday mornings beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class,
8-ball with the women pool players, and a time to try out your artist skills in
the painting class. Artists can bring in their art supplies and get creative
and share their ideas with each other. The painting class time now continues
into the afternoon so that it can accommodate more artists. At 10:30 a.m., line
dancers start strolling across the floor keeping time to the country music. During
the afternoon, duplicate bridge starts at 12:15 p.m. and canasta, pool and
snooker playing begins around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for
someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.

were: Norma Jean Shamblin, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate
bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Adrienne
Hyle and Meg Kletke, 2nd. Friday’s duplicate bridge winners were:
John and Sandy Boepple, 1st; and Adrienne Hyle and Meg Kletke, 2nd.
