The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will hold a flu shot clinic, Wednesday, October 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The clinic is provided by Tiger Drug. Pneumonia shots will also be available.
All flu shots for those aged 65 and older will be the high dose flu vaccine.
There is no charge if you present your Medicare card. No appointments needed,
it will be a first come first serve basis. Blood pressure checks will also be
taken later that day by Humanity Hospice starting at 12:45 p.m. The Center
offers several activities for seniors 50 years old and older. These activities include:
card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba,
bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes
performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise
bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also,
a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular
hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and
music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6
to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th

up a calendar of events. Please note; music night is not scheduled for this week.
If you cannot make the October date for the
flu shot clinic, you will have another chance to get one here at the Center in
November. Mays Home Call Home Health will be giving them Wednesday, November 1
from 12 to 2 p.m. No appointments will be taken. It is a first come first serve
basis.
Monday, October 2 – Tone up with the free
exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit. Members meet up every Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. A chair is provided for the sitting
exercises and for support while doing the standing ones. Stretchy bands and
bouncing balls are utilized into the exercise routine to test your flexibility
and coordination. Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m., also. They play
several rounds of friendly 8-ball pool and always welcome new players to join
them. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start boot scootin’
to country songs. They have a lot of fun, while getting some good exercise. At
1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool, and snooker are played. Also, you can
check out the jig saw puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday, October 3 – The free Zumba with
Angie class will get you moving at a faster pace. They meet every Tuesday and
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick
stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed. Afternoon games include;
duplicate bridge, canasta and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m.
except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are
called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, October 4 – The morning starts off
at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool playing time.
Then at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. Remember,
the flu shot clinic from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. And then get your blood
pressure checked from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Also, games of canasta and other
card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A
puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, October 5 – You can take a guitar lesson
at 9:30 a.m. then join at 10:30 a.m. you can join the Zumba class. Members join
up again with Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The
afternoon brings out canasta, bridge and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games
of bingo begin at 2 p.m. No music night is scheduled for tonight. It will take
place next Thursday at 6 p.m.
Friday, October 6 – Friday mornings begin at
9:30 a.m. with a Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool playing, and
a time to try out your artist skills in the painting class. Artists can bring
in their art supplies and get creative and share their ideas with each other. The
painting class time now continues into the afternoon so that it can accommodate
more artists. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers start strolling across the floor
keeping time to the country music. During the afternoon, duplicate bridge
starts at 12:15 p.m. and canasta, pool and snooker playing begins around 1 p.m.
The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to
the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Norma
Jean Shamblin, 1st; and Sue McMillan, 2nd. Duplicate
bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Benny
Evans and Sandy Boepple, 2nd. Friday’s duplicate bridge winners
were: Jane Anderson and Benny Evans, 1st; and Norma Burk and Butch
Hiatt, 2nd.
