City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers
seniors, 50 and over, a place to play. You can play free games of cards, pool
and snooker, bridge, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, and enjoy a music night with
country tunes. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday,
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30
p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave.

Please note that the free AARP income tax
service has been moved from the Stillwater Senior Activity Center to the
Stillwater Public Library. They began Monday, February 6 and will run through
Tuesday, April 18. The new hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m.
to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve
basis.
Monday, Feb. 13 –A free exercise class called
Sit ‘n Be Fit takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting
at 9:30 a.m. You can test out your flexibility and muscle tone during the exercise
routine. Chairs are set out for everyone to use for support. Also, women pool
players get together for several rounds of fun and friendly 8-ball. After the
exercise class, at 10:30 a.m., a line dancing class meets and kicks up their
heels to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. with
card games: canasta, social bridge, and pool/snooker.
Tuesday, Feb. 14 – Another free exercise
class, called “Zumba with Angie”, happens every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30
a.m. You will do some quick moving steps done mostly to Latin American music. Please
wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. In
the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most
card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at
12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to
make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise
equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are
available for use in the afternoon. Bingo is played at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of
laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for
all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Feb. 15 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class
members and women pool players return at 9:30 a.m. for a fun time. After the
exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick
stepping in time to swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and
other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. A pool tournament will be
held starting at 1 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center to
enjoy your afternoon and some friendly competition. A puzzle is always out
ready to be solved.
Thursday, Feb. 16 – Guitar strumming can be
heard as seniors practice their lessons in class Thursday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Zumba dancers
begin moving again to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out canasta
and bridge players at 1 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the
exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get
ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are
ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy
the music and snacks that participants bring to share.
Friday, Feb. 17 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class members shape up and tone their muscles starting at 9:30 a.m. Women pool players get
out their pool sticks for some competitive 8-ball playing. A painting and
crafting class meets also at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects
and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. You
can socialize while enjoying working on your art or craft project. Canasta,
duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle
table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Connie
Mennem, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners
were: Anna Cooper and Betty Lowrey, 1st; and Laurie Schlobohm and
Jeannie Sneed, 2nd. The next day, of duplicate bridge, winning
partners were: Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston. 1st; and Jeannie
Sneed and Norma Burk, 2nd. Also, reported the previous week,
duplicate bridge partners winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st;
and Butch and Wilma Hiatt, 2nd.
