City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is
a good place for seniors 50 and over to check out the many free activities offered
such as; exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, card and bridge games, pool and
snooker playing including tournaments, bingo, and a music night with country
tunes. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The
facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events.
Monday, Jan. 30 – A free Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercise class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting
at 9:30 a.m. You can test out your flexibility and muscle tone during the exercise
routine. Chairs are set out for everyone to use for support. Also, women pool
players get together for several rounds of fun and friendly 8-ball. After the
exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. a line dancing class meets and kicks up their
heels to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. with
card games: canasta, social bridge, and pool/snooker.
Tuesday, Jan. 31 – Another free exercise
class that will give you a really good workout is the “Zumba with Angie”
exercise/dance class that is offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. You
will do some quick moving steps done mostly to Latin American music. Please
wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. In
the afternoon, games played include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker.
Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at
12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to
make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise
equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are
available for use in the afternoon. Bingo is played at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of
laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for
all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Feb. 1 – Wednesday mornings the Sit
‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool playing begins after the doors open
at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers start keeping
time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other
card games are played starting around 1 p.m. A pool tournament will be held
starting at 1 p.m. Bring your
pool stick or use one from the Center to enjoy your afternoon and some friendly
competition. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, Feb. 2 – Guitar lessons continue at
the Center on Thursdays mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin
moving again to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out canasta
and bridge players at 1 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the
exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get
ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are
ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy
the music and snacks that participants bring to share.
Friday, Feb. 3 – Free activities offered
Friday mornings are the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing, and
a painting class all starting at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art
projects and supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. Boot
scoot’n line dancing gets underway at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon duplicate bridge
players arrive at 12:15 p.m. ready to play some serious cards. Canasta card
games start around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to
stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.

Boepple, 2nd.
