The
City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, January 15 in
observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Regular hours at the Senior Center
are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on
the second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility
is closed on weekends. Start your new year off by checking out the Senior
Center which offers many activities for persons, 50 and over, such as; card
games, social and duplicate bridge, pool and snooker, exercise classes, line
dancing, Zumba, Bingo, a painting class, and an evening of music with country
tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an
exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the
afternoons. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in
Couch Park. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Please
note: music night is not scheduled for this week.
Monday,
January 15 – Center is closed.
Tuesday,
January 16 – If you made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape, you should
try the “Zumba with Angie” exercise/dance class. The routine is done to fast moving
music. The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Good sturdy
shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are
allowed. Afternoon games include; duplicate bridge, canasta and pool/snooker.
Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at
12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody
wins a prize!
Wednesday,
January 17 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is also a good class to help get
you in shape. They meet up this morning at 9:30 a.m. Women pool players come in
during the same time. They get exercise while circling the pool tables. Then at
10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. Games of
canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool
and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday,
January 18 – Students continue their guitar lessons on Thursday morning at 9:30
a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. it is time to Zumba again. Class members move with
Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings
out canasta, bridge and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin
at 2 p.m. Reminder: Music night will not be held tonight.
Friday,
January 19 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers, women pool players, and artists come in
at 9:30 a.m. ready to enjoy the Center’s activities. The artists bring in their
art supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. The painting
class time continues into the afternoon now to accommodate more artists and
give their paint time to dry. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers start strolling
across the floor keeping in step to the music. During the afternoon, duplicate
bridge starts at 12:15 p.m., then canasta, pool and snooker playing begins
around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and
find a piece to the puzzle.
Last
weeks reported duplicate bridge winners were: Adrienne Hyle and Meg Kletke, 1st;
and Betty Lowrey and Carl Provence, 2nd. Friday’s duplicate bridge
winners were: Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, 1st; and Carl
Provence and Norma Burk, 2nd.
