The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will offer free blood pressure checks Wednesday, August 2. Humanity Hospice
will provide the checks starting at 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Center offers a
cool place to enjoy various activities for participants age 50 and over. Activities
include: card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing,
Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country
tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an
exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the
afternoons. The summer water aerobics class is coming to an end. The last two
days will be Tuesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 3. The class is held from
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stillwater Municipal swimming pool. Cost for the
class is $2 per session and is paid at the pool. Also, a walking trail is
located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior
Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is
held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events. Please note; music night will not be held this Thursday.
Monday, July 31 – Stay cool while taking part
in Sit ‘n Be Fit, a free exercise class offered every Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class provides a good workout to help tone
your muscles. Some exercises are done while standing, but a chair is always
there for support. Also, women pool players come in at 9:30 a.m. for some
friendly competition in 8-ball games. Bring your pool stick or use one at the
Center and join the fun. After the exercise class, a line dancing class is
held. The boot scootin’ begins at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge,
pool, and snooker are played. If you like to do jig-saw puzzles, check out the
puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday, August 1 – Try the exercise/dance
class, Zumba with Angie. She will get you moving to a more intense routine of exercise/dance
moves every Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 10:30 a.m. Good sturdy shoes are
required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed.
Remember water aerobics at 12:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afternoon games include;
canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m.
except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are
called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, August 2 – Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercisers and women pool players come in again to take part in their
activities at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping
to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played
starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out
ready to be solved.
Thursday, August 3 – Guitar tunes can be
heard coming from the guitar lessons class at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba
dancers move along with Angie as they work on their steps to the Latin American
music. Get your last day in for water aerobics at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon
brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting
games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Music night will not meet this week.
Friday, August 4 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class
members, women pool players, and a painting/crafting class all arrive starting
at 9:30 a.m. ready to have a good time. The artists bring in their art projects
and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. They
would like to welcome new painters to the group. At 10:30 the line dancers get
their feet moving in time to some swinging tunes. Afternoon brings out the card
players. Duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 and the canasta players start around
1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a
piece to the puzzle.

were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Norma Shamblin, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners for the week
were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and John and Sandy Boepple, 2nd.
The previous week, duplicate bridge winners were reported as: Butch and Wilma
Hiatt, 1st; and Charles Foreman and Anna Cooper, 2nd.
