The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
participants will celebrate birthdays for the month of April on Wednesday,
April 26 at 2 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served. If you are 50 and over you
are welcome to join us and become a member of the Center. Activities to
participate in include; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes,
line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with
country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located
right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are
Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday
evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events.
Monday, April 24 – Check out the free
exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit. It is offered every Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Exercises are done while in a chair, but some are also
done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are
utilized in the regular exercise routine. Women’s pool playing is also another
fun activity to check out. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at
9:30 a.m., also. The women welcome new players to come enjoy the fun games of
8-ball. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot
scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta
and bridge card players. Also, the pool and snooker table are open for free
play.
Tuesday, April 25 – For a more extensive
exercise workout, come try “Zumba with Angie”. This free exercise/dance class is
offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. It will get you moving to some Latin
American type music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping.
No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and
pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge
which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead
of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise
equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are
available for use in the afternoon. Pool and snooker playing are popular, also.
Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We
always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, April 26 – On Wednesday mornings,
the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women pool players meet up again at
9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick stepping. In
the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around
1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved. Remember,
birthday cake and ice cream will be served at 2 p.m.
Thursday, April 27 – The morning starts out
with free guitar lessons at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin
moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players
and pool players, at 1 p.m. Bingo usually has a guest caller on Thursdays and
the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get
ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are
ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy
the music and snacks that participants bring to share.
Friday, April 28 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class all take place at 9:30 a.m. The
artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional
skills with each other. Spring is a good time to start a new art or crafting
project while socializing with the other artists. Canasta, duplicate bridge,
pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle table is always
waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Norma
Jean Shamblin, 1st; and Cindy Smith, 2nd. No duplicate
bridge winners were reported last week.
