City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, January
2 for the New Year’s holiday. We will be ready to start 2017 off on Tuesday,
January 3 at 9:30 a.m. You can enjoy the many activities offered for seniors 50
and over such as; exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, card and bridge games,
pool and snooker playing including tournaments, bingo, and a music night with
country tunes. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday,
9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events.
Monday, Jan. 2 – The Center is closed.
Tuesday, Jan. 3 – Regular activities return Tuesday morning with, “Zumba
with Angie”. This is a free exercise class that meets every Tuesday and
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. It is a quick moving dance/exercise class done mostly to
Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping.
No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games played include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1:00 p.m. except for
duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of duplicate bridge
should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is
played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a
treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon, also. Bingo
is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We
always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Jan. 4 – Time to start that New Year’s resolution, to get
more exercise. The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group meets up at 9:30 a.m. You can
work on those extra calories consumed during the Holiday. The women pool
players also burn off some calories while circling the pool tables. After the
exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers keep moving and stepping as they keep
time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other
card games are played.
Thursday, Jan. 5 – Guitar lessons continue as students practice new
tunes starting at 9:30 a.m. Zumba dancers
begin moving to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out the canasta,
bridge, and pool players around 1p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and
the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to
get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are
ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6:00 p.m. Come
enjoy the music and snacks, which everyone brings to share with everyone.
Friday, Jan. 6 – Friday morning activities include: Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercise class, women’s pool playing, and a painting class. All the fun begins
after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and
supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. Afternoon duplicate
bridge players arrive at 12:15 a.m. ready to play some serious cards. Canasta
card games start around 1:00 p.m. A pool tournament will be held starting at
1:00 p.m. Bring you pool stick or use one from the Center and enjoy your
afternoon with some friendly competition The puzzle table is always waiting for
someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported winners in social bridge were: Louie
Geiser, 1st and Bena Harper, 2nd. Duplicate bridge
winning partners were: Adrienne Hyle and Meg Kletke, 1st; and Norma
Burk and Carolyn Schwabe, 2nd.
