City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will
offer free blood pressure checks on Friday, September 16 from 12:30 p.m. to
1:30 p.m. The checks will be done by NOC nursing students. No appointments
needed. First come, first serve basis. Many activities are offered at the
Center, such as; an exercise class, line dancing, a Zumba exercise/dance class,
art class, pool playing, card games, bingo, and an evening music session every
Thursday night. Hours for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through
Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings,
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events.
Monday, Sept. 12 – Monday mornings get busy
after 9:30 a.m. A free exercise class is offered, called Sit ‘n Be Fit, along
with women’s 8-ball pool playing. In the exercise class, chairs are used for
some of the exercises so you always have something there for support if needed.
Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all utilized in the 45
minute routine. The women pool players play several rounds of 8-ball. They
welcome new players to join in the fun competition. After the exercise class at
10:30 a.m., line-dancers get together to do some boot scootin’ to some country
music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players arrive ready to
try their hands with the cards, hoping for a win. Pool/snooker tables are
available for use also. A puzzle is always out ready for a piece to be found.
Tuesday, Sept. 13 – If you are looking for a faster
paced exercise class, you should try the “Zumba with Angie” class. It is a
quicker moving dance/exercise class done to Latin American music that makes you
want to move. It is offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please
wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are
played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle
solving. Exercise equipment which includes exercise bikes, and a weight set are
available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is
a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out,
for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Sept. 14 – It is time to exercise
again in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. They work on limbering and stretching
exercises. Also, women pool players arrive ready to play some more 8-ball pool
games. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their
heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of
canasta, and other card games are played. A coed pool tournament will be held
at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition.
Thursday, Sept. 15 –The Zumba class is an
extra workout that will probably get you sweating to the jazzy tunes. The class
starts at 10:30 a.m. You must wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge
players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on
Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start
tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to
entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in
by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday,
Sept. 16 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class all
take place starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and
share your skills with the class. At
10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready for some high stepping and sliding. Afternoon
duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 p.m. and other card games which includes
canasta, begin around 1:00 p.m. Remember from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. you can
get your blood pressure checked. Stop by the puzzle table and see how good you
are at finding a piece.
