The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will provide free blood pressure checks on Tuesday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m.
They will be provided Home Call Home Health. No appointment is needed. Remember
to Zumba with Angie on Thursday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. All seniors 50 and
over are welcome to participate, free of charge. Angie Whitehead, the certified
Zumba instructor teaches this form of an exercise/dance class done to Latin American
type dance music. Also, on Thursday, September 18 at 1:00 a coed pool
tournament will be held. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a September calendar
of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am
to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility
is closed on weekends.
Monday, Sept. 15 – If you are a senior citizen
and would like to join a free exercise class you should check out the Sit ‘n Be
Fit exercise class offered at the Senior Center every Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday at 9:30 a.m. This class incorporates a chair for some sitting,
stretching exercises along; with some standing, limbering up exercises, also.
Stretching bands, rubber bouncing balls, sponge balls, and wooden dowel sticks
are all used for various exercises that help with your coordination and
flexibility. Women’s 8-ball pool time and a painting/crafting class also take
place at the same time. The women pool players play several friendly,
competitive rounds of 8-ball and would love for more players to come and join
them. Also, the painting/crafting class would like for more members to join
their group. You can bring your art supplies or a craft project and socialize
while sharing your artistic skills. At 10:30 a.m. seniors can come try their
footwork out with some country tunes during the line dancing class. Beginners
to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating
time. In the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw
puzzle solving are popular.
The Monday social bridge group would
like to extend an invitation for bridge players, all skill levels, to join them
on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. Call 747-8080 and leave your name and phone number or
come by the Senior Center to get your name on the players list. They like for
you to sign up before the Monday you intend to play, so enough tables can be
made up with players.
Tuesday, Sept. 16 –A popular activity played
on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. is Wii bowling. This is a played
on a game system where each player is in control of his own game by holding the
hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise
equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are
available for use, too. Also, don’t forget the new activity of table pong will
start at 10:30 a.m. Come see how accurate you can bounce a ping pong ball. In
the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle
solving. Blood pressures will be taken at 1:00 p.m. Bingo players also meet up on
Tuesday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a
prize!
Wednesday, Sept. 17 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m.
and exercisers get started limbering up in the Sit ‘n Be Fit class or you can
get out a pool stick and join the women in some rounds of 8-ball pool. Then at 10:30
a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. In
the afternoon games of canasta and other cards games are played. An afternoon
movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a returning favorite
that some missed the first time, titled, “Frozen.”
Thursday, Sept. 18 – A fun time with Wii bowling
begins at 9:30 a.m. The new class called Zumba by Angie, returns at 10:30 a.m.
This is a fun class that puts exercise to dance music. During the afternoon, try
a game of canasta, or some pool/snooker playing. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool
tournament will be held. All seniors are invited to come join the fun. At 2:00
p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. During the
evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make
some good toe-tappin country music. Come enjoy the music!
Friday, Sept. 19 – Friday mornings are
active with exercise class, women’s 8-ball, and a
painting/crafting class, all
beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the
music. After lunch, the cards will be brought out for games of canasta, and
pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.
Game champions announced for last week
were: social bridge members did not meet due to the holiday. Duplicate bridge
players did meet last week and the announced winners were; Lionel Raff and Al
Perry, 1st and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. Winner
of the pool tournament last week was Jack Ventris. Wii bowling champion for the
week was Lee Arnswald.
