The City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center will have a birthday luncheon to celebrate senior participant’s June
birthdays. This will occur on Friday, June 14 at 12:00 noon. The Center offers
a place to stay cool for seniors, 50 and older. They can participate in several
activities such as; card games, pool/snooker playing, exercise class and exercise
equipment, dominoes, bingo, movies, painting class, and musical entertainment. Stop
by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities
offered and make sure to pick up a June calendar of events. Hours are: Monday
through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for
music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in
joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the
number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone
number.
Monday, June 10 – Women pool players arrive at
9:30 a.m. on Monday mornings to practice their pool shooting skills and
challenge each other to some friendly competition. Also, a painting class gets
together to compare each others ideas on their artwork. There is exercise
equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an
exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge,
canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up
with a puzzle to solve.
Tuesday, June 11 – Tone up your body with the free
Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center. They meet at 9:30 a.m.
every Tuesday and Thursday. These exercises are low impact. They can be done
while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights,
stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards,
stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong
table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, dominoes, pitch, jig-saw puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s
Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with
any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No
appointment is needed.
Wednesday, June 12 –Pool sticks are out again at
9:30 a.m. as the women pool players gear up for some fun rounds of pool. A Wii
interactive game set and a ping pong table are available for use. Exercise
equipment is available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include;
canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always
out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic romance movie, “Safe
Haven” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 13 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
group stretches and limbers up at 9:30 a.m. to about 10:15 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. A
group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to
the music. Afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, and
puzzle solving, are played at 1:00 p.m., also. A men’s pool tournament begins
at 1:00 p.m. Bingo is at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at
5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and start some good
ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!
Friday, June 14 – Women’s pool time
begins at 9:30 a.m. and also the painting class members bring in their art work
to discuss with each other and add new touches, too. Exercise
equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game
system. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, and dominoes. A
men’s pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m.
Last weeks duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel
Raff, 1st; and Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champion for the week was: Lula
Mae Davis. A men’s pool tournament was held and the winner was Jack Ventris.
