Fun Activities at the Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has many fun activities to choose from for seniors. Check out the daily activities in the monthly calendar or come by and take a tour of the Center and see for yourself. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events.

Seniors enjoy the January birthday lunch at the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center.

        Monday, Jan. 24 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players are anxious to get some rounds of pool in while having a good social time. Also, oil painters come in and get creative with their paints and canvases. An exercise room is available for seniors with equipment that includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.
        Tuesday, Jan. 25 – A free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is offered at the Center. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person during the 45-minute, low impact exercise workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.
         Wednesday, Jan. 26 - Choose from women’s pool, ping-pong or Wii interactive games for loads of fun. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, puzzle solving, and a movie. The movie, “Charlie St. Cloud”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
         Thursday, Jan. 27 – There is no charge to get a good workout with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time bowling with the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.
         Friday, Jan. 28 – Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a time set aside for the women to practice their pool skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.
         Last weeks winners for social bridge were: Janetta Loper, 1st, and Pauline Poe, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Donna Beason and Betty Lowrey were 1st; and Patricia Logan and Don Lorett were 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Bob Bryan and Maxine Morgan.

Duplicate bridge winning partners: Patricia Logan and Don Lorett were 1st; and Lew Taylor and Charles Foreman were 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Lula Mae Davis and Don Lorett.

Blood Pressure & Blood Sugar Checks at the Senior Center this week!

 The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will have a representative from HealthBack Home Health here doing blood pressure/sugar checks for seniors on Tuesday, January 11, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. There is no charge for this first come first serve service. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Jan. 10 – At 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, pool balls will be cracking and falling in the pockets as the women enjoy some fun competition at the pool tables. Also, creative minds will be creating beautiful artwork in the oil painting class starting at the same time. Or you could partake in a Wii game. Also, exercise equipment is available for senior use such as; a treadmill, exercise bikes, a weight machine, and a ping pong table. Afternoon gets busy with bridge, canasta, pitch, pool, dominoes, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving.

         Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Louie Geiser, 1st, and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Lew Taylor, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Patricia Logan and Don Lorett were 1st; and Murna Raff and Jerry Koelsch were 2nd.      The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Phyllis Sanders and Bud Moats. Winner of a men’s in-house pool tournament held last week was Jim Stormont. Grand champion of the Texas Hold’em monthly winner’s game was Sue Adams.

Afternoon gets busy with bridge, canasta, pitch, pool, dominoes, Mexican Train dominoes, puzzle solving, and a Texas Hold’em winner’s game.

Holiday Closing at the Senior Center

Senior Center News December 13-17, 2010

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a hearing clinic provided by Integrity Hearing Aid Clinic, on Tuesday, December 14 at 1:30 p.m. Also, a Medicare supplement and prescription review will be held Thursday, December 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sign-up now for an appointment! Friday, Dec. 17– Friday morning begins at 9:30 with women’s pool and a craft class. Bring you pool stick or a craft project to work on and enjoy the fun and friendly conversations. The afternoon crowd likes to play canasta, pitch, pool, Mexican train dominoes, regular dominoes, and finding pieces to the puzzle.

Duplicate bridge players got together and the winning partners of the group were: Donna Beason and Betty Lowery, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Bud Moats and Phyllis Sanders. A monthly winner’s game of Texas Hold’em was also held and the winner was Don Lorett.
