Last Chance for Free Income Tax Help at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will conclude the free income tax help, being offered by AARP tax preparers, on Wednesday, April 15 at 12:00 noon. The service will continue Monday through Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon until then. No appointments are taken. It is only a first come first serve basis. You need to bring last year’s income tax return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and photo ID and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up an April calendar of events.

        Also, please note; a sign-up sheet is out now at the Center for a defensive driving class that will be provided by Meridian Technology Center, free of charge, on Wednesday, April 15 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This class may earn you a discount on your vehicle insurance. Space is limited so come by or call the Center to get signed up!

        Monday, April 13 –The last week for the free income tax service starts at 9:30 a.m. Also, beginning at that time you can join the free exercise class, shoot some 8-ball pool with the women, or check out the painting/crafting class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class members test their creative side with their art work. Bring your supplies and give your skills a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a different kind of exercise by joining the line dancing class and boot scootin’ to country music. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!

Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good workout in the free Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition! Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

A defensive driving class will begin at 9:45 a.m. and go until 4:00 p.m. Work on your flexibility and endurance by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. The afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is a new version musical titled, “Annie”

         Thursday, April 16 –During the morning you can try out the Wii bowling game, or take a free guitar lesson. Then another class that will really get you moving is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, April 17 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class all begin at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. After lunch, afternoon games include; canasta and duplicate bridge.

April Birthdays Celebrated at the Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s April birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, April 10 at 12:00 noon. Ham with pineapple will be the entrĂ©e. You can bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and join the friendly fellowship. Free blood pressure checks will be taken on Thursday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. by Home Call Home Service. Then another class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music.          Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Lynn Fent, first and Connie Mennen, was second; and in duplicate bridge; Betty Lowery and Patricia Logan, were first and Sandy Boepple and Bob Henderson, came in second. Duplicate bridge players met up again for a game and the winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first; and John and Sandy Boepple, were second. Jack Ventris was the champion in the coed pool tournament held during last week.

Enjoy the Weather and the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        Get out and enjoy the spring weather and while you are out come check out the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center. The Center offers a variety of activities, which include; card games, pool playing, exercise, line dancing, Zumba, painting class, bingo, movies, guitar lessons, and listening to musicians perform. There is also a walking trail in the city park beside the Center so you can get some exercise while enjoying the warmer weather.  The free AARP income tax service continues Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, March 9 – Free income tax service continues this week. They will be ready to start at 9:30 a.m. and go until 12:00 noon. Sign up when you arrive. Other activities starting at 9:30 a.m. are a free exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool time, and a painting/crafting class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class members test their creative side with their art work. Bring your supplies and give your skills a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a different kind of exercise by joining the line dancing class and boot scootin’ to country tunes. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker.

        Tuesday, March 10 – Starting at 9:30 a.m. the tax preparers can sign you in to get your taxes done free of charge. It is a first come first serve basis. Also, at 9:30 a.m. Wii games are scheduled. Wii bowling is the popular game of choice. This is a fun game played on a gaming system. If you like to bowl you should enjoy this game. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. This class is good to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, March 11 – Free tax help continues at 9:30 a.m. Test your endurance with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and have some fun competition! The afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is a drama titled, “The Judge”.

         Thursday, March 12 – No appointments needed to get your income taxes figured free! The free service is offered 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Wii bowling games, start at 9:30 a.m. Also, try out your musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, March 13 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting class all take place at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. Free blood pressure checks will be taken from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The birthday pot-luck luncheon will begin at 12:00 noon.  After lunch, come down to the Center and get in a game of canasta.


         Due to the weather last week the bridge groups did not meet.

Senior Center is a Great Place to Make New Friends

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a warm friendly place to socialize and make some new friends. Activities include; card games, pool playing, exercise, line dancing, Zumba, painting class, bingo, movies, guitar lessons, and listening to musicians perform. Also, the free AARP income tax service continues Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No appointments are taken. It is only a first come first serve basis. This free service is provided by AARP trained volunteers and will continue until April 15. You need to bring last year’s income tax return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and photo ID and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night.          Game champions announced for last week: duplicate bridge winners were; Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 1st, and Treca Baer and Norma Burk, 2nd. On their second day of playing, winning partners were: Camille Johnston and Betty Lowrey, 1st place; and Al Perry and Sehem El Sherif,  2nd.
