Stay Warm at the Stillwater Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a warm friendly place to socialize and play cards, shoot pool, exercise, line dance, Zumba, paint, play bingo, watch movies, take guitar lessons, and listen to musicians perform.  Also, the free AARP income tax service continues Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No appointments are taken. It is only a first come first serve basis. This free service is provided by AARP trained volunteers and will continue until April 15. You need to bring last year’s income tax return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and photo ID and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a February calendar of events when you stop by. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

Also, other activities starting at 9:30 a.m. are a free exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool time, and a painting/crafting class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class members test their creative side with their art work. Bring you supplies and give yours a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a different kind of exercise by joining the line dancing class and boot scootin’ to country tunes. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker.

        Tuesday, Feb. 24 – The AARP tax preparers will be ready to go starting at 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Try out Wii bowling at 9:30 a.m. This is a fun game played on a gaming system. If you like to bowl why not try it out? Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. This class is good to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Feb. 25 – Free tax help continues at 9:30 a.m. Get in shape by joining the free  Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. The afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is a drama titled, “The Good Lie”.

         Thursday, Feb. 26 – You can get your income taxes done for free at the Center. Or try out the Wii bowling games, starting at 9:30 a.m. Also, try out your musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, Feb. 27– Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting class all take place at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. After lunch, come down to the Center and get in a game of canasta. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and have some fun competition!


         Game champions announced for last week were: Social bridge; Mary Thomas, 1st; and Louie Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were; Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 1st, and Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, 2nd. Also, Penny Sizemore won again with her partner Sehem El Sherif, 1st place; and Camille Johnston and Betty Lowrey were 2nd.  Unreported the previous week, winners in duplicate bridge were: Jerry Koelsch and Laurie Schlobohm, 1st, and tied for second were John and Sandy Boepple, Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle. The pool tournament winner for the week was Jack Ventris.

February Birthday Luncheon Held at the Senior Center

Free Blood Pressure Checks at the Stillwater Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold free blood pressure checks on Tuesday, January 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. These will be provided by Home Call Home Health. The Center is a fun active place to attend for activities such as; exercise and dance classes, bridge, pool playing and tournaments, card games, painting and crafting, bingo, music, movies and even guitar lessons. Start your New Year out Right at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a fun active place to choose if you want to get out and do something that will entertain and keep you busy. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Jan. 12 – If your New Year’s resolution is to get in shape, why not try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class gives you a good 45-minute workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and also while standing by a chair. Stretching is done using elastic bands of different strengths. Also, spongy balls, wooden sticks, and weights are incorporated in to the routines. The women pool players also meet at the same time to shoot some games of 8-ball pool. Or, you could try your hand at painting or crafting in the art class at 9:30 a.m. Bring your art supplies and show off your talents. Then afterwards the line dancers will work off some of their extra calories with their fancy footwork. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.

        Tuesday, Jan. 13 – Wii bowling is a fun and popular activity to participate in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Jan. 14 –Limber up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group which meets starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes.  During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed 8-ball pool tournament will be held. Women are encouraged to participate. Don’t let the men have all the fun!  An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is an animated comedy titled, “Nut Job”.

         Thursday, Jan. 15 – Try out your coordination skills with Wii bowling at 9:30 a.m.  Or you could try out your musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m.  Canasta is a popular game of choice along with pool and snooker. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun!

         Friday, Jan. 16 – Friday morning activities get under way at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting class. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers do some boot scootin’moves across the floor. After lunch, come down to the Center and get in a game of canasta or pool.
