Wii Bowling Tournament at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a Wii bowling tournament on Tuesday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. A sign-up sheet is out now and a registration form is available at the front desk that must be filled out to participate. Another Wii bowling tournament will also be held Thursday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. Sign up now! Also, on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m. a balance assessment clinic will be provided by HealthBack Home Health. Get your balance checked and receive tips on how to improve. The monthly pot-luck birthday luncheon will be celebrated on Friday, May 13 at 12:00 noon. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Senior, Mary Berry recently celebrated her 94th birthday at the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center.

Monday, May 9 – Women’s pool time and a painting class begins at 9:30 a.m. The women have a great time with some friendly competition. The painters get creative with their choice of oil, acrylic, or water color paints. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, May 10 – Come join a free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit. It takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a 45-minute exercise workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. the Wii bowling tournament gets under way. Come join the fun! Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving. The comedy movie, “You Again”, will be shown at 2pm. Remember at 1:00 p.m. you can get a free balance check.

Thursday, May 12 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. will get you moving and stretching. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, May 13 – The women’s pool group and the painting class meet again at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. The pot-luck birthday luncheon starts at 12:00 noon. Bring your food dish or $3/person and participate in the delicious food and great fellowship. Afterwards, stay and play afternoon games which include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Deloris Sanders, 1st, and Jean Jones, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Mia Owens, 1st, and Larry Simmons, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Treca Baer and Norma Burk, 1st; and Murna Raff & Jerry Koelsch , 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for last week were Bud Moats and Sue Adams. Also, champion in the Texas Hold’em winner’s game was Don Lorett.

Monday, April 25 – Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a time set aside for the women to practice their pool shooting skills and have some friendly competition. Also, the AARP free income tax help begins at the same time. Today is the last day for income tax help. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

AAA Defensive Driving Class this week!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold an AAA Defensive Driving class, taught by Alan Drew, from Meridian Technology Center, on Tuesday, April 12 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. A lunch break will be given. There is no charge for this class and you may be able to receive a discount on your vehicle insurance. Check with your insurance provider and call or come by to sign up now, while there is still room in the class. Several other special activities are also planned this coming week at no charge. Also, a Texas Hold’em winner’s game was held and Sue Adams was the winner. A women’s in-house pool tournament was held last week and Linda Stangl came in 1st, and Ellie Gertiser took 2nd place.

Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m., too. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “My One and Only”, starring Kevin Bacon and Renee Zellweger, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, March 31 – Join the exercisers in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help also starts at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, April 1 – At 9:30 a.m. you can shoot some pool with the women or get creative with the painting class. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Treca Baer, 1st, and June Cramer, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Linda Jamison, 1st, and Jeanne Barrick, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Charles Foreman and Lew Taylor, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the whole week were: Sue Adams and Phyllis Sanders.
